Pouane Tutu was born in a township near Pretoria . She studied at the University of Cape Town . She grew up in a musical family in a time when jazz was still seen as a form of rebellion against theApartheid . They moved in 2002 to Europe, particularly to The Hague , where she studied for a time. In 2004 she moved to Antwerp .
She performed in South Africa , Italy , Switzerland , Germany , USA , Belgium and Netherlands . The Brussels Jazz Orchestra she worked for the homage projects Billie Holiday ( "Writing Billie" ) and Nina Simone ( "Goddamn! A tribute to ..." ). She also was on the concert stage with Dre Pallemaerts and Toots Thielemans . Puoane proved for the first time with her solo albums Song (2007) and Quiet Now (2009).
